No...I thought that I'd put that it was in New York...hmm...=/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPyYPRAkWCAChapter 12 Plot
When I called Near, I got a busy signal. Must've been someone else calling him. I waited a few seconds, then heard, "Hello?" Figures. Near at his busiest means Near at his emotionless. "Near, it's Ruby. I've seen the news." "Oh, yes. I was just talking to G." "I'm not sure if my Dad has seen it yet, but..." "But what?" "I want to be the one who talks to the Second Kira." "No. We can't have people throwing around their lives for nothing." I quickly hatched some facts in my mind. "But, Near, I'm under suspicion to be Kira, and--" "Is exactly why we can't have you talking to him." Silence consumed. I felt the raw tension building up. "But if I'm actually Kira, won't it be safer to risk my life than anyone else's? If I die, there goes Kira, and then you can take this man down! If I don't die, then we have valuable information, like what he's after, if he has accomplices, et cetera!" The other line remained silent. I was breathing heavily. "Near, are you there?" "Yes, I'm here. I'm just...thinking." Wow. Near always had desicions made up right in his head. He never had to think. "I'll let you do it. Come to HQ an hour earlier tomorrow, we have some rigging up to do." The busy signal came back on. I hung up and sighed in relief. * * * It was Saturday, and we were in the Mall of America. Of course, I was meeting the Second Kira, but the others were keeping watch. I had microphones and cameras in my jacket, and earpiece in my ear. I heard G say, "Don't aggravate him, he might have a piece of the Note in his pocket." The Second Kira said in an irritated voice, "Take the earpiece out. It would be a shame to have to kill a lady." I took it out. "And the microphones. And cameras." I took it all out. We should have figured that he'd see it. Just for jokes, I took out my own digital camera. "Ha ha." I smiled. "What do you have on it?" "I've never been outside of New York before. I wanted to take some pictures to show my family." "Do you mind if I look through it?" "Yeah, sure. If you think I've taken pictures of you, you're wrong." He picked it up. "How do you look at the pictures?" I pressed a button, then did a few examples. He quickly got the hang of it. It took a few moments for him to get through it all. He turned a deep shade of red most likely when he saw the picture of me in a bikini sun-tanning myself that my mom had snuck up and snapped. He returned it to me. "So, tell me." He sipped from his drink. "How'd you find the Death Note?" "What?" This caught me back a bit. How could he tell? "Do they have cameras in your house?" "Yes..." "And I've been the only one killing recently. So, tell me. How did you find your Death Note?" "Just because they have cameras in my house doesn't mean I'm Kira all of a sudden." It was time to hit back. "How do I even know that you're the Second Kira?" "Because I did what I said I'd do in the video. And, if you'll let me, I'll let you touch a piece of the Death Note." "And what good will that do me?" "You'll be able to see my shinigami. They call him Raito." Raito? Did he mean...? Yes, he did. Raito was another name for Light Yagami. "I'll let you." Without another word, he pulled out a piece of the Death Note from his pocket and touched my hand with it. I felt the same radiation as the day I first picked up the Death Note. Suddenly, I saw a skeletal shinigami behind him. He had a jacket and pants, large spikey hair, and glowing, red eyes. "Nice to meet you. I would shake hands with you, but on your part, people might think you were crazy." "True that." "So, who's your shinigami?" I was silent. I stared at the Second Kira and then at Raito. The Second Kira, who still had yet to give me a name, said, "It's alright, as long as you took out everything." I hesitated for a moment, then said, "They call him Ryuk. I can't show you, I can't bring the Death Note along with me. I didn't have a chance to cut out any pieces before they had cameras set on me." "I can see him." Raito said. "Ah, Light, good to see you again." Ryuk chuckled. "Don't call me Light, I'm Raito. A shinigami now. And let me tell you, if there's a God somewhere, you'll go the exact same place as Rem did." Ryuk just chuckled and let it roll off his back. "So, are you here to help me or to hurt me?" I asked the Second Kira. "I am definately here to help you." "Then what is your name?" "Marcus Woodward. I'm the unofficial son of L." "Unofficial?" "Yes, unofficial. My parents never married. My mother is Lisa Woodward." "I see. Well, I'm Ruby Altum. Now that we've exchanged pleasentries--" "Hey, Ruby! Want me to get you some sushi To-Go?" G called from WAAAAY across the room. I called back, "No thanks, I'm not into raw fish!" "Who's that?" Marcus asked. "He's on the task force." He looked at me suspisciouly. "But we don't know each other that well, honestly!" I got serious again. "Now, as I was saying. Now that we've exchanged pleasentries, I have a plan. First off, we need to make an agreement that we won't kill each other. If we kill each other, then the Task Force will know who to look to first. We can't have that happen, for the good of a new world. Next, I'd like you to keep killing criminals for me. The ones with minor charges, I'd like for you to kill off using sickness and disease." Raito interrupted, "You learned something from me, eh?" "Yep, sure did. Anyway, it's likely that the Task Force will want to keep in contact with you. Give me a private number, a number they can't track." He reached over and pulled a napkin out of a tin. "Got a pen?" I dug in my purse and produced a pencil instead. He wrote down the number and handed it to me. "Thanks." "So, what's your plan?" "I'll copy this down so that I can call you at my home. Then, we can meet and discuss things. I'm in no position to be killing criminals now. That's why you have to do it for me." Ryuk laughed. "You know, that sounds awfully familiar." Raito laughed along. "Raito, did you give him the idea to become the Second Kira?" "Yes, I did." "And you're willing to support us, right?" "Yes. I can't give you names, but I'll kill people for you." "Good. I'll keep in contact." I stood up and ealked over to Near's table. Without looking, I told Ryuk, "If you're wondering why I didn't have Near killed, I can't. It would make too much of a public uproar. Here in the mall." I reached Near's table. He asked, "What did you learn?" "He wants to know who we suspect Kira to be." "And?" Matsuda asked. "And I didn't tell him anything. But, I did manage to get his number." I waved the napkin around. "Isn't it supposed to be the guy getting the girl's number?" Matsuda asked. I whacked him on the head. "This isn't dating you know!" "Oh, good." He breathed a sigh of relief. I saw G shaking his head. His hair was still a bit silver.

Wanted to do something 'cuz no one (and when I say that, I mean Pete) has been on and I've been bored. So, I did something a bit silly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtcjbA7Fnm4Filler 1 Ice Cream
Near, who had been silent except for his one question, stood up and announced, "Ok, let's go. We need to get to HQ soon." Matsuda said, "Aww, come on! Can't we get some souveniours first?" "No." "Matsuda, it's not like anyone's going to interrogate us on whether or not we went here." G told him. "Besides, Ruby's family thinks that she's with a friend." "Yeah. And if they find out...heh, I'm in trouble. My dad will freak out that this happened. He's overly protective." I rolled my eyes. "He'll freak out even more if he knows that I was the one who vouched to do it." "Oh, right..." Matsuda looked over at a nearby Baskin Robins. "I wish we at least had time for dessert." "Buy some if you want." Near told him. "But hurry up." Someone was a bit grumpy. I sighed. "Near, what flavor of ice cream do you like best?" He looked up at me. "I've never had ice cream." Matsuda almost tipped over in his chair. "YOU'RE L'S SUCCESSOR FOR GOD'S SAKE! YOU GOTTA EAT SWEETS!" Near just said, "Successors shouldn't be like the people the succeed. Otherwise, they'll be on the same level as them." "Oh, well. I'll just pick for you." I looked down at Matsuda. "If you want Baskin Robins, come on." I turned to G. "Want anything?" "If I'm getting ice cream, I'll buy it myself." He said icily. Sheesh, men and their pride! Or was it that I was suspected to be Kira? Tee hee, I liked annoying men. "Too bad, you don't know what you're missing!" I called over the chatter of the food court. I strolled over to Matsuda, who was already in line. "So, what are we getting?" He asked. "I dunno. Baskin Robins has a lot of flavors, and I'm not all that sure what I'm getting Near yet. What are you getting?" "I'm likely to get a double scoop." He laughed. "I've heard it's really good." "Yep, sure is." I rocked back and forth on the feet, looking ahead at the couple in front of us. When I turned to face Matsuda, I found he was standing far closer to me then I remembered. "You smell good." He sniffed. "Like flowers." I laughed nervously. "Um, yeah...it's actually cranberries..." I grinned at him. "Ah. ...I see." Matsuda looked over at the table where Near and G sat, chatting casually. Pretty normal. But then I noticed... G laughed as he eyed us. Especially me...he had that look in his eye. He put some money on the table, then Near looked over at us, too. He put some more money on the table. Why, those little...I was a bet! This was wrong! G shook his head, I could swear I saw him say, "He'll never do it." I should've expected this, being the only girl around... Why, that little brat! That was enough out of him. I grabbed Matsuda's hand and batted my eyelids. "Hey, Matsuda, I really like that suit you're wearing." "Thanks." He grinned. I looked back over at G. His mouth was gaping. Near was nearly on the floor laughing. Interesting...so he could use emotions when he wanted. "When we get back to New York, you want to go and grab some coffee some time?" "Yeah, that'd be great!" Matsuda was nearly jumping out of his pants. "Ahem...may I help you?" The cashier coughed gently to get our attention. I said, "I'll have a waffle cone with the fudge swirl, and then..." I looked down at the ice creams. I noticed a cute looking pink ice cream with little blue candies in it labeled Cotton Candy Explosion. I looked back over at Near, who had seemed to calmed down. Yep, this looked like his kind of ice cream. "...one waffle cone of this Cotton Candy Explosion for my friend over there." Then Matsuda, looking over his choices, said, "I'll have a waffle cone with one scoop of this Coffee Toffee, and one scoop of Butter Pecan." The cashier handed us our various ice creams, then said, "That'll be $5.25." Before I could even begin digging in my purse, Matsuda interjected, "Here's I'll get it." With his spare hand, he opened his wallet, got out a 5 dollar bill, then jingled in his pocket for a second for a quarter. He handed it to the cashier. Almost as emotionless as Near, the cashier chewed on her bubblegum for a second, then said, "Thanks, have a nice day." He handed Matsuda a reciept. Half-way to the table, I said, "Thanks, Matsuda! That was so sweet!" He blushed a little, then said, "Aw, it was no problem..." When we sat down, Near was a bit shocked when I handed him the pink ice cream. I guess his manliness was a bit defensive. But, hey, free ice cream. Who could resist? He licked it once, and smiled. "Mmm, this is good!" Matsuda, who had already tried it, said, "Yeah, I know!" Before enjoying into my own, I looked over at G. His eye twitched a little, and he glared at me. He scowled. I smiled sweetly. "It's all worth it in the end, huh?" I licked once. I paused, savoring the flavor, then licked again. "I must say, though, the first taste you get of an ice cream cone is the best." "Personally, I say it's all the best!" Matsuda said in between a few licks. G just muttered obsceneties. It was then that I noticed the money was gone off the table. Well, it was all good in the end. Maybe not for G, but still. He got what he deserved. And, I had to admit, Matsuda was a bit charming, so maybe this wasn't going to be all that bad.

Too bad, you deserve it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=d78WScuA958Chapter 13 Romantic
The next day, Near called us into HQ early. My dad went too, so that meant it didn't have anything to do with the Marcus. I was a bit relieved. At HQ, there was a woman about my age standing next to a boy about Near's age. The girl had blonde hair and violet eyes, just like G's. Related somehow? The boy had dark, black hair, red, bloodshot eyes, and professional-looking glasses. "This is Hiro and Nathalie. They are the new members of the task force." The girl, Nathalie, gave G a deathening squeeze. "Hi big brother!" G looked like he was going to pass out. "How did they let you out of Wammy's House?" "Easy! Near called for me and Hiro-kun!" Hiro-kun? She wasn't Japanese. "H-hiro? No...Not Hiro, please-" Hiro glared at G. Death glare. "I'm standing right here." "Exactly! I don't wan't you here!" He fixed his glasses. "Shush, Geo. You left us." To stop the hatred, I interupted and shook Hiro's hand. "I'm Ruby, nice to meet you." He smiled at me. "Nice to meet you, too." Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Near tip over one of his dice structures. It looked like a beautiful church. Why would he tip it? Things became more hectic at HQ. Nathalie liked to watch anime, and Hiro played videogames. Honestly, I only liked that stuff when I was little. Now, I was a professional Kira. I didn't have time for crap like that. Later that night, at my house, my cell phone buzzed on my nightstand. I picked it up. It was Matsuda. Oh, right, he's probably calling to ask me on a date. "Hey, Ruby." "Hey, Matsuda." "I was calling to ask you if you'd..." I heard a slight, muffled bump, like he was holding his hand over the mouthpiece. Then he came back on. "Would you like to go to a movie tonight?" "Oh, yeah, sure!" "Cool. I'll pick you up at 8." "Alright, I'll see you then!" I hung up the phone. * * * When 8 arrived, the doorbell rang, and I sprung up from my bed and ran down the stairs. "I'll get it! It's for me." My dad joked, "What, do you have a date tonight?" "Yes, as a matter of fact, I do." He grunted something innaudible. Some kind of curse at having a daughter instead of a son, I think. I opened the door, and there stood Matsuda. He had a bouqet of flowers in hand. My dad turned his head to see who it was. He was never willing to give up his posistion on the couch, not even for angry father rights. His face turned red when he saw it was Matsuda. Matsuda seemed to freeze. He laughed nervously. "Heeeey, Mr. Altum..." "Matsuda." My father growled. "You can forget it." Standing on the sidelines wasn't working for me. I grabbed Matsuda's hand and half dragged him to his car. I shouted behind us, "Bye, Dad!" Matsuda unlocked the door to his silver Altima. Name connection, hmm? He stiffly climbed in the driver's side, still holding the flowers. He looked down at them absently. "Your father reminded me of Soichiro Yagami, my old chief." "Ah...I see. He can do that sometimes..." I looked off. "Thanks for picking me up. Nevermind my dad, he's a real pain in the butt sometimes." We sat in silence for a moment. Then he held the flowers up for me. "I got these for you." "Thank you, Matsuda." I gently lifted them out of his shaking hands and sniffed them. "They smell great!" Matsuda began driving. On the highway to the movie theater, I saw him drifting a bit to the right. And I didn't really think that that was supposed to happen. "Matsuda, you're drifting." He seemed to snap out of something. He looked at the road, then swerved back into the lane we were supposed to be on. "Ahahah...kinda...dozed off for a second, huh?" I smiled. "Yeah. That was a close call." * * * At the movie theater, we saw the new movie "The Taking of Pelham 123". During the movie, I saw Matsuda do, 'The Move' where he stretched his arm around me. I played along and rested my head on his shoulder. I looked up into his eyes, and he smiled. His smile seemed to light up the whole theater. Did I really have feelings for Matsuda? Yes, I did. And all it took was some stupid bet between Near and G for me to realize that. After the movie, we went to Panera to have a cup of coffee and talk about the movie. Panera was always an enjoyable place. It was warm and comfortable in there. Maybe it was the way that they lighted the place. Maybe it was how paintings of bread and pastries filled up space on the wall. Maybe it was just that deliscious smell of fresh-baked bagels. At our little booth, we sat across from each other. I asked Matsuda, "Why did you want to work on this new Task Force team?" "Well, the other upset me a little. But, still, I want to bring the new Kira to justice. We need someone who was there from the very beginning to spot out Kira's old tricks. My friends on the other task force team, they refused to come with me." He looked down. "I told them that it was a mistake. But they didn't listen." He looked up. "And here I am." "Huh." I looked up at the paintings. "I always wanted to paint stuff like that. But my stuff always turns out cartoony and unrealistic. I've always liked art." "Yeah, me, too. But I was never good, period." We both laughed. "I hate it that I still have those cameras. If they were smart, they would know that since I know it, that I wouldn't do anything, even if I was Kira." "Hmmm...I never thought of that. I'll talk to Near." "Really?" I felt my face light up instantly. I'd get my privacy again! I wondered if Ryuk had been spying on us, but I didn't dare turn to look for him. "Yep, I sure will!" He grinned whole-heartedly at me. My heart fluttered. We sat and talked all night long. Through the course, I learned G's first name, Gregory. And if Nathalie was his sister, then his full name was Gregory Ivee. This would be easier than I thought. If he ever threatened me, I'd have an advantage. First it was art, then we worked our way to books. Matsuda liked all kinds of fantasy, and I liked mysteries. Then to food. We both liked Italian. Then to colors, computers, typing, school, doctors, music, and it went on almost all night, with nearly every subject. One of the janitors said, "Hey, we're about to close." Matsuda turned to me. "Do you want one more cup of coffee or do you want to go on home?" I thought for a moment. Then I said, "Let's get one more cup of coffee." * * * In the car on the way home, Matsuda put in a CD. I couldn't really tell who it was, since it was a burned CD that didn't have anything written on the top to identify. When it started playing, I recognized it immediately. "I love the Counting Crows!" "Really?" "Yeah! I've listened to them since I was seven!" "You're kidding!" We both smiled. "Do you know all the lyrics?" "Most of 'em. But I don't sing that well." I giggled. "No, come on. Sing. Sing for me." So, I started to sing. He sang along with me. We sang all the way home. It was amazing. We were just...it was just right. When we reached my house, he got out with me. In the drive way, we faced each other. "Thanks for the great night, Matsuda." "It was no problem." "So, I'll see you tomorrow at HQ, right?" "Right. But, here, I wanted to give you something." Before I knew it, he had reached down and kissed me. It seemed to last for forever, but it ended eventually. "I'll see you tomorrow." Matsuda breathed into my ear. When did he transform from a hopeless romantic to...to this? It was...amazing. "Right." I seemed to croak. I slowly walked up the steps to my house and opened the door. Matsuda was waving from his car. I smiled weakly and waved back. My dad sprinted forward and grabbed me out of the doorway. Good thing Matsuda was already driving away, otherwise.... He stood me away from him and looked me up and down. "Did he hurt you?" I stared with disbelief into my Dad's eyes. What was wrong with Matsuda? "No, Dad! Stop being paranoid! I'm allowed a life, aren't I?" I walked up the stairs into my bedroom. The next day was going to be a bit rough, I could already tell.

Oh, so you taught him how to kiss, too? Pucker up, Pete, Matsuda wants to practice! That was in bad taste... xD www.youtube.com/watch?v=s6fyJqoWj0gI've listened to this video that I now know how to say, I'm Not Kira! in Japanese. But it is also super awesome epicness plus 15. So epic, it is now in my favorites playlist on my iPod that consists of 136 songs. Chapter 14 Conversion
The next day, at HQ, in the main room, Near announced, "As you may notice, we believe there is a third Kira now. Chances are that if Kira is among us, they will most likely contact the second Kira, and the second Kira will probably try to find the third Kira." Damnit, I couldn't get rid of my cameras yet! G, on the other hand, strode over to a window in silence to look down at the many people of New York, to see them busling about, doing day-to-day activities. Suprisingly, he spoke his own little monolouge. "Just think...Kira is among the crowds of people in this city...Why do they do it? Why kill criminals when they can rot in prison instead of having the sweet release of death. It's odd, don't you think? Kira tries to punish the criminals, but in a way they're helping them. They have the pleasure of going to the afterlife...while we're stuck here, with all of the corrupt hypocrites and perverts. Kira's making it easier for them." Everyone, including myself, were awed. I'm not doing them a favor. What about all the smaller criminals, just in for mugging someone, or owning stolen property, or robbing a bank of some kind? They didn't want to die. None of them wanted to die! None of them! And this way...I wasn't doing a favor! If the world was so bad, then why did some people enjoy it? G needed to get a life, otherwise I might take his. He was starting to bug me, how much he thought of the world in a depressing manner. He left for a while, said he was going out ot get some coffee. When he came back, Matsuda confronted him. "You made a really great point, G. But wouldn't the criminals be in Hell in the afterlife?" That's right! They'd go to Hell and burn to bits and pieces, just as thousands had already gone! "What if they repented? Or if there is no Heaven or Hell? What then?" "But the death note said-" "The user can neither go to Heaven or Hell. I know. But Earth is just as good as Hell. Pedophiles and crooks everywhere you look. If you ask me, we're already as good as dead. Kira gives them death, a blessing. We're here with life, and this life is pretty horrible if you ask me." He went away into his own little room. Matsuda came and sat next to me. "This is almost what happened last time..." "Really?" "Yeah, but G is me. Last time, I could never shake the thought that Kira was so evil after all. The crime rates were going down tremendously. I thought that he was neither good, nor bad. I still think that. But G..." "He thinks that Kira's not doing the world a favor, just the criminals a favor. There's always a lighter side to every discussion." Later on, I learned that G had been offered the chance to be as Watari was to L, except for Near. He accepted graciously. And do you know what that little bug got? He got his own room, AND the use of an intercom that boomed over our heads: "Listen up, everyone! New info about a criminal released from prison. The name is Reina Kyza. The people who have been selected for this mission are Ruby, Nathalie, Hiro, and me. Mr. Altum, you have my duties while I'm gone." So, now I accepted orders from a man in an intercom instead of Near? I didn't like this, not one little bit. * * * Reina Kyza had been in jail for attempted murder. She had somehow managed to get out for good behaviour, but I thought it was something to do with Marcus. First, G went in to talk to her. When he got back, he said, "She's not all that different. Just a little miffed for being in there all that time." Next, Nathalie went in. When she came back, she said, "Big brother, you're right. Do you think we have to have all of us go in there?" Hiro replied, "Of course. We have to see how she reacts to different people, and if she reacts to one person in particular." He looked at me through the corner of his eye. Had G told him and Nathalie? I hated his rotten guts even more... Hiro went in. When he came out, he said, "She freaks me out." "What do you mean?" G asked. "What's so wrong?" "The stuff she likes, and how she acts. It's like she's been underground for 50 years!" Nathalie piped up, "Well, in a sense, she was." "Oh well. I guess I'll go in now." I hopped out of the van and walked a few blocks to get to Ms. Kyza's house. When I knocked on the door, she answered hastily, saying, "Sheesh, so many people are coming around..." When she noticed me, her eyes became blank. "Please, come in." She said in a robotic voice. Yep, Marcus was behind this. He was smart enough to be able to do this. We could talk through her. I asked her, "So, have you heard of the Third Kira?" "Yes." "Is he real?" "No. The Second Kira was just using that to confuse officials." "I see.... So, has the Second Kira got anything to say to me?" "When we met, he told me to tell you to call the number." It was gathering together now...Reina was released from jail, then Marcus went to go and talk to her. He must have told her how I looked, and then given her a message. "Ok. I'll call the number. Anything else?" "He needs to know if you have anything to say." "I do. Tell him, when you next meet him, that when we call his number, to act clueless as to why we're calling or how we got the number." "I will." "When will you leave?" "Tonight." "Wait until tomorrow, it won't appear as suspiscious. Now, why are you leaving?" "To look for a job." "Good. Get the message to the Second Kira, will you?" "Yes. Goodbye." "Goodbye." I exited. I was glad that everyone had decided cameras and wiretaps weren't a good idea, due to the fact that if she was under Kira's control, that she wouldn't do anything suspiscious if there were cameras or wiretaps. When I was safely in the van, I said, "The only real big difference in her life, other than being out of jail, is that she's going to move to look for a job." "She told me that, too." G said. "Why didn't you mention it?" I asked. "It didn't seem suspiscious." He shrugged. Oh well. You had to pick your fights. This just wasn't worth it. * * * When we got back to HQ, it was suprisingly empty. I guess that with four people gone and three people left, it would seem like that. G entered the main room first. Near sat in the floor, giving us an unemotional stare. "G, the computers are down." G nodded. "Why don't you go and tell everyone else that the computers are down?" "Yeah, sure, they're just down the hall here." G came back to us. "Get out your guns." We assumed the worst. Someone was inside the building, armed, and ready to fire. We all pulled out our guns.

Conveniant? Well, Sor-ry. I was just trying to make it realistic. Someone had to find out that we had a Task Force in there sometime, and I mean, if they support Kira (which it's likely they will) then they'll want to kill whoever the heck is in there to protect them. Probably some nut like Mikami who gets wrapped up in Fake Idols.

Gotz it! www.youtube.com/watch?v=txm6FW8-C-IChapter 15 Wound
We split into two groups, Hiro, Nathalie, and G, and in my group was me, my dad, and Matsuda. He looked truly concerned. My dad looked like he wanted to clobber the snot out've him. We were searching around, looking for this dude, when our group head a gunshot. Followed by another... We followed it. Matsuda looked nearly in tears. This must've been difficult for him. The last time he had to handle a gun like this... A cloaked figure on the floor managed to croak out, "Kira will punish you all!" He fell limp. I paid no more attention to him. I was beginning to learn. Nathalie was sitting beside a bleeding, dying G. She was sobbing loudly. Terror was heavy and thick in the room. G wouldn't die, would he? If he did, I'd be blamed. No, the cloaked figure would be... We had to act, otherwise we'd need two body bags around here! "Nathalie!" She barely acknowledged me. "If we don't act soon, he's going to die, so just listen to me, ok?" She nodded stiffly. "We need to stop the flow of blood. If anyone has any spare clothes, we need to do that. Next, Dad, you call an ambulance." "Right." Next thing I knew, people were piling up coats and towels and everything they could find. I turned to Hiro. "Hiro, I need your belt." "Why?" "Don't ask questions, just give it to her!" Nathalie snapped. He nodded swiftly and handed me his belt. I bunched up two towels and a coat on his entrance wound, then two more coats on the exit wound, then used the belt to hold them in place. Soon enough, ambulances arrived. He was loaded up inside, then Hiro helped Nathalie up inside. The drove away quickly. What was wrong with me? He was a bug who needed to be squashed. He was annoying. No. My reputation would be ruined. It would almost be like a confession. Matsuda drove me to the hospital, with my dad following behind with Near. * * * The emergency room's lobby wasn't all so cheerful. We were the only ones there, surprisingly enough. Four hours of stress-filled waiting. Go over here, go over there, count the tiles... I talked to Near, who was just sitting emotionlessly on the floor. "Near, why aren't you reacting at all?" "Because it's just my second nature. I really am worried, I just don't show it." We both glanced over to Nathalie, who was in tears. Hiro was attempting to cheer her up. No use so far. I looked back over at Near. He was still looking at Nathalie. "I've blocked out emotions for so long, it's almost a struggle to use them. I always thought that it was stronger that I didn't use emotions." He looked back over at me. I looked deep into his eyes for a few, searching moments. What he said was the truth. "Sometimes it's stronger to cry then to not cry." Silence continued on for a while longer, then the doctor came out. he told us, "We've managed to stabilize him. But he's not going to be so hot anymore. That bullet seared part of his spinal column, so it's possible that he may not walk soon....or ever again, for that matter. But he will live, I'll tell you that." Nathalie's look of bitter-sweetness was...depressing. I can't really describe it any better. Her big brother was never going to walk again. It was hard. Hard for all of us. We were dropping like flies around here, weren't we? Near just sat. We all agreed that Nathalie would be the first to see him. In the end, it ended up being in this order: Nathalie, Hiro, Near, Dad, Me, Matsuda. I didn't understand why Matsuda had to go in last, but oh well. He volunteered. When I went in, G looked lively. "Hey, G." His eyes sparkled with enthusiasm. "Hey, Ruby." He looked deep into my eyes. "I heard that it was your quick thinking that helped me out there in the beginning." "It was nothing, just stuff I'd read out of mystery novels." "No. The doctors said that without that initial support, I would've been a goner. I learned today that dying isn't like I originally thought. This world is a great place. We just have to think of it that way, and it is. It's not a hell-hole, as long as you have people here that care about you." "That's true." "You actually cared about me living or dying. I believe that if you were Kira, you would've just let me lie there on the floor. Let me die in misery and shock." I gave him a hard stare, then asked, "Does that mean...?" "Yes. I don't think of you as Kira. Kira is a cold-hearted serial killer. You, on the other hand, are a respectful person who cares about life and death." Amazing...it takes a near-death experience to clear my name, huh? I wonder if Near thought the same way... No. He wouldn't. We all knew him too well. I changed to subject. "I hear that you have a lot of recovering to do." "Yes, and no. I have to sit here, in a hospital bed, and wait for the hole in my stomach to grow back into place. But trust me, I'm not walking ever again." "How do you know?" "I can't feel my legs. I'm trying to move them, right now. Do you see movement?" "No." "Then it's true; I'll never walk again." He paused and looked out the window and into the dark stillness of night. "Near says that I'm probably not going to be able to return to the Task Force." "Really?" "Yeah. But, I guess it's the best thing to do, considering my situation. It would be kinda hard to lug around a wheelchair everywhere, don't you think?" "But, I thought that..." "It's ok, we can still know each other. Just...not as a part of work. As real friends, from now on." I ended up leaving that hospital room with more than I came in with. How satisfying! He doesn't think I'm Kira anymore, I'm sure that at least one more person doesn't think I'm Kira, definately, so that clears me up partly. This was pulling together nicely. Plus, G and I were friends...imagine that, friends! This truly was sensational.

Pff. Blasphemy my eye. I'll get you a new chapter in the morning. I'm goin' tah hit teh sack here in a few minutes, and it usually takes me a while to write a good chapter of decent length. Edit------- Well, I can no longer avoid it. I've managed to procrastinate to 2:20 pm, but I can no longer deny my duties! *heroic pose* I now bring you Chapter 16! This chapter of Return of Kira has been rated [PG-13] for strong but brief language near the end. www.youtube.com/watch?v=txm6FW8-C-IChapter 16 Meanwhile
After Matsuda came out with a relieved look on his face, us two left. It was a long night. Over the next few months, we went on different outings, just to get the same result. At work, I told Near about how I thought that we should contact the Second Kira. He agreed without any persuasion of some kind. On the phone, we managed to secretly, in code, pick out a safegaurded criminal. We knew that if he died, it meant that I no longer had cameras and could kill freely. I managed to get the cameras all out of my room. Ryuk even confirmed it, how nice. The safegaurd went down. Ryuk said, "Now I can have apples?" "That depends." I said from my desk, where I'd quickly and silently written down the safegaurd. "Are there cameras in my car and on my bike?" Ryuk huffed out a sigh. "I'll go check..." He disappeared for a few minutes, and I sat waiting. He came back and said, "Nope, they're gone. Does that mean I can have apples now?" "In the morning, Ryuk." He moaned. Me and Matsuda grew on each other, and found that we were absolutely perfect for each other. As the months wore on, we finally knew how G was going to be. He called Near. "Yes. Hello G. You're out? That's good. I'll send the van to pick you up." He snapped the phone shut. When did Near get a cell phone? But it didn't matter. So what, Near's got a cell phone? G was coming out of the hospital. My dad said, "I'll go and pick him up." "Good. We'll be here waiting for him. We have things to discuss." Near was unemotional. I couldn't believe that that was all he ever did...never used his emotions, only his head. Tiresome, really. A few moments later, and Dad opened the front door. And there he was, rolling right in. "Hey, G, you're looking tight!" Matsuda complimented. G gave him a confused look that went right along with Matsuda's attempt at modern-speak. Silly Matsuda. My dad had finally learned to accept that me and Matsuda were serious about it. With some exceptions. This might be a new one that he put in the book. He put his hand on Matsuda's shoulder. Yep, addition number 73. "Matsuda, that's really embarrasing. Don't talk like that." Me and Nathalie giggled. We realized that we were very much like each other. Near just sat on the floor. G looked over at him. "It's going to be your birthday soon." It was just a sentence, no real purpose other then a reminder. "Yes, I'll be 16 soon. I'm very excited." Sure didn't sound like it. I walked up behind him and shook Near's shoulders. "C'mon, Near, act excited, won't you? You're going to be able to drive soon. Where are you going to go?" "Here." I thought for a moment of what to say. "Anywhere else?" "Not really." "Why don't you drive yourself to a friend's house, or maybe to a resturaunt. You could do lots of stuff when you drive." You could also drive yourself off a cliff, Near...that would be so happy. Almost mindlessly, he said, "But all I ever need to go to is here." It was scary. I excused myself. * * * The next day, that morning, it was just me and Near at HQ. I was the first to arrive. I sat down and watched him build a miniature tarot card building. "So, what's shaking, Near?" "Not much. But if you tip over my building, let me tell you, I'll be pissed." I laughed. "That won't happen, trust me." I noticed some papers on the table. I mumbled sort of to myself, "What's this?" As I looked through it, Near continued building his tarot card structure. "It's stem cell research. I believe that it would work. I'm sending G off to Europe so that he can use his legs again." I saw one ticket for Europe. Great Britain. I turned in my swivel chair. "But, Near, this is risky. Really risky." "Yes, I know, but it's worth a try." "No. I mean...he's very vulnerable in Europe. Don't you think it would be safer to have him looked at here?" "Yes, I already knew about that. That's why we're doing it. If he dies in Europe, when he's most vulnerable, and in the most general danger, we'll know that Kira is among the Task Force." Damn him, Near. "But...not everyone knows G's real name, do they?" "Well, in the Mall of America -- I'm sure you remember that, don't you? -- G was called by his first name, which Matsuda heard. Hiro and Nathalie grew up with him. And I'm absolutely certain that Matsuda has leaked it to you by now that G's first name is Greg, short for Gregory, of course. And his sister's last name is Ivee, so most certainly, you know his full name. Otherwise, you know it now." He really put his head into this, didn't he? "Well, then, I guess you're right. But, still, does he know about this?" "Yes. He even said that he would be willing to have his life taken for the sake of catching Kira." Luckily, the conversation was broken up when Hiro strolled in cheerfully. Of course, he said, "How're you all doing today?" Near smiled. "Just fine, Hiro. Just fine." Dammit, I hate that Near! He was taking this in pride; had me backed up in a corner. And I can't use my weapon due to the fact that that was why I was stuck in the first place! God damn the little bastard, have his cocky tongue pulled right outta his mouth and watch it shrivel up and turn black! He deserved it! Who did he think he was messing with?! Some little girl who should've known better than to wander in this area, or a woman who knew how to handle herself?! God damn that Near! I will win, even if I have to strangle you with my own god-damn bloody hands!
~End of Chapter~ Whoa. This chapter kinda freaks me out. And to think I originally had a bit of Writer's Block. XD Sure don't now. Lots of D's get rid o' that!

IT BE TEH LATERZ!!! This episode of Return of Kira is rated [PG-13] for brief language. www.youtube.com/watch?v=txm6FW8-C-IChapter 17 Worried
It was actually a few weeks after our little talk that Near decided to tell G about the stem cell research. He left quite soon afterwards. It seemed so long, and so boring, up at HQ. It felt like they were on a wild goose hunt, and Near was grasping at straws. I felt quite confident. Then I remembered about William and Zetsubou, so early on...I knew that Near was cooking something up. I continued to kill the criminals in jail, and Marcus killed the ones out of jail. A few weeks after G had left, Near decided in the middle of one of our meetings, "Ruby, call the Second Kira again. We need this guy to squeal. Otherwise..." He looked at each and every one of us. Matsuda was practically asleep in his chair. "...we're pretty much just wasting the government's money." We set up all the speakers and everything, and everyone listened in. Marcus answered, "Hello?" "Second Kira, what should we call you?" "Ah. Just call me..." There was a pause as he thought. "Call me M." Unoriginal, pff. Stupid moron. "O...k..., M, tell us what state you live in." "State? How do you know that I live in a state? For all you know, I live in Canada, Mexico, or somewhere in the middle of Central America for all you know!" "No, we know that you live in a state. If you lived in Canada or Mexico, they would have confiscated any Death Notes that you contained at the airport. And we would have had the footage and records of your flights." "Maybe I drove." "We'd do the same with the borderline." "Fine. But I'm not telling you what state I live in." "Well, then, that means you live in Minnesota. If you lived anywhere else, it would have been a bit difficult for you to get to Minnesota within the time-limit." "Fine. I live in Minnesota." "Now, tell us...What do you know about a third Kira?" "A third Kira?" "Yes. One that's been killing criminals out of jail in cruel and unnusual ways." "Such as?" I heard Near comment in the back: "Mmm. Smart cookie." I pulled a file out of a drawer about one of the criminals. "Dying of loss of blood when writing strange symbols on the walls of a home or apartment." "Mmm, sounds like a possibility. But I'm not making any promises on whether or not this guy is real." "Ok, thank you for your time. We'll talk to you later on, that's for sure." * * * Later on at home, late at night, I called Marcus. I made sure no one was listening. I was surrounded by a closet on one side and a bathroom on the other. "Hello?" "What the heck were you thinking?! M?! At least think of a whole name, you twit!" "Well, sorry, it had to be spur of the moment." "Anyway, I didn't initially call you to gripe. I needed to tell you something." "Which is?" "Is anyone around?" "No. Sometimes I wish they were, though. I live alone." "Ok. You need to move outta there. We can't keep having your victims communicate for us. Near will catch on eventually." "I'm fairly sure that he already has." "How would you know?" "The last person that you sent my way said so." "Damn..." "And the person before him." "God dammit!" I felt like kicking my bed, but I decided against it. "I hate that little..." Raito's voice came over the phone. "Calm down, Ruby. If your family finds out, then you'll have to kill them, or give up rights to the Death Note. I should know, I thought of showing it to them...in the beginning." I realized something at that moment. These guys really backed me up. "Thanks." "Yeah, yeah, whatever." The phone switched over to Marcus. "So, where do I have to move?" I looked out on to the street from my window. I noticed a "For Sale" sign. "I need you to come to New York City. Move into the house across from mine at 327 Fellbrook Street. Do you have that written down?" "Almost...yep. Got it." "Good. I need to go, and remember, don't contact me unless it's an emergency." "Yeah, yeah." Click. He was gone. I sat on my bed, sighed, and covered my eyes. This was getting complicated. What would I do if they got the Death Note? What if they were about to get it? I looked over at the drawer that I kept it in. It would be easy to snatch it when I was in here writing. ...No. I wouldn't NOT know what to do. I knew exactly what I'd do. I looked up at Ryuk. "What's up with the endearing eyes?" He sounded freaked out. "Ryuk, if I'm ever backed up into a serious corner, I want you to give me the shinigami eyes. But I need to give you the signal. I don't want to do it unless it's necessary." "Fine with me. What's the signal?" "Since it's likely it'll be the last thing they ever hear, I'll shout something...triumphant. Like, 'Now, Ryuk, let's kill these bastards!'" He "hyuk"ed a few times. It was a few weeks later when G came back. He could walk. I was happy for him...sort of. At least he didn't suspect me anymore. But still, I needed to get him to pass that emotion along to everyone else. Otherwise, I would never get them off of my back.

Tank you, tank you. (lolz) www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDqYVpZCG5w (takes a second to work out the kinks, otherwise, it's beauty smashed into four minutes and three seconds.) Chapter 18 Blind
Once again, a little bit after G came back, I hatched an idea. I had to get them going on the idea that there was a third Kira. I had to get them following something that wasn't real! It was ingenious, my plan. I called up Marcus late at night. We talked it over. I told him all about my plan. He agreed, it would work. * * * The next day, I went into work as usual. We were working on trying to track down Marcus somewhere within Minnesota by looking through the Mall of America's videos. But it was no use. Thousands of people went in and came out that day, and no one could find Marcus. He was smart. ...But not quite as smart as me, the original Kira. It was a little bit after I had come back from lunch that the phone rang. We all waited as Near put it on speaker and answered the call. "Hello?" It was Marcus, as planned, with a voice mask. The words that I told him to speak were cruel and sick. It was exactly what I wanted to say. "Have you noticed the recent cleansing? Wonderful, isn't it?" I saw Near whisper something to G. I thought I heard something about the third Kira. It was working! "Do you like the symbols? They're part of my own creation. Each one is an original...a masterpiece. I'm a fabulous artist." It was working! I saw G's face twist in rage. His face grew red hot. "Masterpiece?! You're using people to make your 'art'...Their blood...You're a sick person." Looking around, I saw everyone else agree, but only with their facial expressions. Except for Near, of course. Unemotional. How would I know if he was dead? Nathalie looked a bit green around the gills. Marcus laughed loudly. "Why thank you, my fine sir! Now I must take my leave!" G looked exasperated. He wanted to say more, I just knew it! I was such a wonderful actress. I stepped up to him and put a hand on his shoulder. In my most convincing voice, which was absolutely honest sounding, as I had always been a good liar, I said, "It's ok, G. We're going to catch the third Kira, and we'll make him pay for his sick hobbies." My eyes stung with tears. I told you, I was convincing. G shrugged off my hand and left the room for his own. I stared after him in despair. I turned to Near. "We should recall him and track down his number. This guy doesn't sound as smart as the first two." It was this way that I'd get Near on a wild goose chase. Make the "third Kira" easier to track, but never really able to find him. "Yes. Good idea. You press recall, and Matsuda, you get on the tracking. I'll go and talk to G." Nathalie put in shyly, "Do you mind if I come with you?" "No, not at all. He's your brother, and you have rights." Near and Nathalie disappeared. Hiro and my father looked at me and Matusda. "What should we do?" My father asked. Matsuda replied, "You all should probably keep looking through the stuff with the Mall of America." The both nodded and set about it. "Ready?" I asked Matsuda. Even though we had a relationship, it was all work here at HQ. "Ready." I pressed the recall button. It rang once, twice, three times. Then Marcus picked up, with the voice mask, as we'd planned. "I thought that you'd call back." Beside me, Matsuda announced, "55 more seconds. Keep him on the phone." "Why do you kill them in a sick and inhumane way?" "Because, it's my art. It's my way of announcing my true potential to the world." "32 more seconds, come on!" "Why can't you just do that with the good old pencil and paper, though?" "Because it's not worth it. It has to be unusual for people to pick it up." "Almost! Keep it up!" "But this way no one will know that it was you." "Oh, but they will. Have you not heard of pseudonyms?" "I've got it!" Matsuda shouted. "We have the location of the third Kira!" "Well, I must leave again. Duty calls, you see?" Marcus hung up. Dial tone filled my ears. To me, it sounded like a trumpet fanfare announcing my near victory. I could almost taste it on my tongue! "What have you got?" I asked Matsuda. He was staring at the computer screen. He clicked something, and announced, "925, Keebrid Road, Tasklin, Minnesota." Near, who was standing at the door, startled us. I guess he had just gotten done with talking to G. "Well, kiddies," he walked on in, numbly, mindlessly, "I guess we're going on another fieldtrip." How unoriginal. Figures. But, Marcus would be moving out. There was no finding him. And when we got there, we would find something that was in the complete opposite direction of where he actually headed. Then another clue when we got there, and another, and another, and another... This goose chase was going to get long, hard, and tough. I knew that Near wouldn't have all of us going after the "third Kira", and I hoped that he would send my father with them. He was getting to be deadweight around here, and this was his opportunity to show his quality. Or, so he thought. Tee hee.

So, since no one is posting I guess that I'll do a new chapter anyway. ;D www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDqYVpZCG5wChapter 19 Memory
As we boarded the airplane for Tasklin, Minnesota, Near pulled me over. "Sit next to me, will you?" I knew that if he was a normal person, like G or Hiro, he would be smiling, so I accepted. "Yeah, sure." I put both of our luggage in the overhead compartment, due to the fact that Near still was not tall enough to reach it, and then sat down next to Near. Just for laughs, I moved around in the seat as if I was sitting on something, making it squeak. I looked over at Near and gave him a corny smile. "So, what's on your mind?" He stared at me with a look that said, "What do you think? Your stupidity. That was so stupid I can't believe you're actually considered smart." But, instead, being as "polite" as he was, he said, "I need to talk to you about Matsuda." "Ah, I see." I looked at him in disbelief. What was wrong with me and Matsuda? "What about me and Matsuda?" "If something that I have in mind would come inbetween you two." He looked at me hard. "It depends on what it is." I wondered what this little rat wanted to do with me to prove that I was Kira, which was virtually impossible, because Marcus could always kill criminals inside and outside of jail. "Well, you see, I was wanting to revert back to one of L's old tricks...I was wanting to have both of us handcuffed together and see if the killings stop, or at least slow down." That little welch! I'd rather die than be handcuffed to him! But, of course, I didn't show it. I remained calm and said, "Well, if it'll get this whole Kira mess off of my back, then I'll do it. But you'll have to ask Matsuda, too. I don't want it getting too personal, if you know what I mean?" He looked away out the window. A voice came on the intercom that said, "Passengers, please buckle your seat belts, we're about to take off." "That's what I thought you'd say." I let a little bit of the sourness come through in my tone this time. "Well, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go sit next to my boyfriend." "Yeah, sure, don't mind me." With his acceptance, I stood up and made my way to Matsuda. When I sat down next to him, he asked me, "Hey, what did Near want?" "He wanted to ask me a little bit about me and you." "And...?" "Well, I told him to ask you. He wants permission to have me and him handcuffed together to see if the killings stop or slow down." He stared at me in shock. "Really? So this can help to prove that you're not Kira?" "Yes, it can." "Absolutely!" He took hold of my shoulders. "Once this whole case is cleared up, we'll be free to go on, do what we want..." He looked as if he had a few thoughts on what "we want" was. It was so cute. I pecked him on the cheek. * * * The plane ride gave me time to think about my game plan considering I might be handcuffed to Near soon. I knew what I would do. At Marcus' house, I looked around. He told me about where his panic room was and how to open it. He said that he would be waiting. My game plan would go into play, starting now. Once there, Dad looked around to make sure that no one was in there. And, as planned, Marcus was nowhere to be found. I smiled to myself mentally. This was too easy! "Hey, guys, I'm gonna go look around." I told them. Near stayed in our rental car with Nathalie, while Hiro, Matsuda, G, and I all searched through the house, guns drawn. But they wouldn't need them. I went into what appeared to be Marcus' bedroom. At least, he said that it was in his bedroom. I left the door ajar, so as to not arouse suspiscion. There was a light switch that didn't turn anything on or off. That was a good sign. I was getting warmer. I flipped up the cover to reveal a pin pad. I entered the code that Marcus had given me and flipped it closed. A quick but silent door opened. I stepped inside, and Marcus closed it. "So, what's the plan?" "Did you make the note that they're supposed to get?" "Yeah. It's on the lamp there. I'm suprised you didn't notice it." "I didn't look around, I'm waiting for after our meeting. Look, Near's going to be handcuffing me to him soon, and I need to get rid of all my evidence." Behind him, Raito chuckled. "That sounds similiar to what I had to do so long ago." "Yep. He even mentioned it. So, I need you to take the notebook, let me find the note, and then once we're done being handcuffed together, find a way to deliver it back to me." "Simple. So, how are we going to do this?" "While you're on the run, write down names in both notebooks. How you'll know that I'm not handcuffed anymore, have Ryuk look over me while I'm empty-headed." Behind me, Ryuk complained, "Aw, do I have to?" I turned to him. "Yes, Ryuk, you have to. Otherwise, Raito might have to. And if Marcus tells me that he did, then I'll never ever give you apples again." Raito chuckled. "So, you know his weakness for apples?" "Yes, that's how I got the cameras out of my room. And wiretaps." "These guys stick to the original story, huh?" "Yep. Anyway, here's my Death Note. I've already spent too much time here. Ryuk, when I'm not handcuffed to anyone anymore, come and tell Marcus, ok?" I handed the Death Note to Marcus. "Yeah, sure, whatever." "Good. I'll see you after I'm cleared." I nodded to Marcus, then Raito, and finally Ryuk. He just rolled his eyes. I stepped outside into his bedroom again. I noticed the note that he wrote, then towards the door that was still ajar. I turned back to where the panic room door used to be. I whispered under my breath, "I give up ownership of this Death Note." -------------- And it was gone. Everything was absolutely gone, replaced with what it should have been. -------------- I looked around the room once more, to make sure that I didn't miss anything. Then I noticed a note on the lamp. I pulled it off. Figures, these sick criminals were never very smart. It said, "Catch me if you can! 39 N 86 W Indiana" Coordinates? This guy had to be teasing us. What a moron, we'd catch him eventually. I looked around and called down the stairs, "Hey, guys, I found something!" My father, Hiro, and Nathalie were instantly sent to go and check it out. They were supposed to check in with us once a week, more if there were any mishaps. It turns out that it was coordinates to some house in Indiana. As for G, Near, Matsuda, and I, we headed on home. This wasn't a failed field operation, it was just a long one. We'd pull through it and catch the third Kira, him and his sick artwork.

Dad left immediately, along with Hiro and G. Near insisted on it, saying that he might already have a head start. It was pretty much a fact already if his house was emptied out, in my opinion. But I didn't tell them, I didn't want to seem like a smart aleck. It was a long plane ride home. I was thinking about being handcuffed to Near until God knew when. It stressed me out, knowing that he still thought me to be Kira. That this was the extent of what we had to do to prove me innocent. * * * Back at HQ, it was practically a ceremony. I realized that we really weren't telling my dad alot about this lately. It was a little awkward. We hadn't had the chance to tell him before he left. We came into work. Everyone, which was Near, Matsuda, Nathalie, and I, sat down. Except for Near, who was already sitting down. On the floor. You know, this might be a problem, my constantly moving, and him...just sitting there. Unemotionally. He just kept on looking at the handcuffs with a long chain in his hand when he said, "Are you ready?" I breathed in a deep sigh. I could do this. To prove the truth! "Yes. If this will help my situation with you and everyone else...yes." Matsuda looked at me. He seemed pained. So, this was hurting him as much as it was hurting me. I hoped that nothing would happen. Then I looked at Nathalie. Earlier, I remember she had asked me, "Ruby, does this mean that we won't be able to spend girl-time together?" I had put my hand on her shoulder and told her, "Don't worry. As soon as I'm out of those cuffs, we'll both take a day off and spend the entire time talking. I promise." She was obviously remembering this as well, and she looked nearly in tears. I was her first BFF outside of the Wammy's House. It must have been painful there. And to see this. She looked nearly in tears. I stood up. It was time. "Come over here, Ruby." Near said, still staring at the handcuffs. I could tell that the idea frightened him and I both. I walked over to him, which seemed to take forever. My last minutes of freedom. I crouched down next to him, and he reached out, grabbed my wrist quite brutesquely. The handcuff slid open, around my wrist, then slid closed again and clicked. He checked it to make sure that I couldn't get out my yanking the latch a few times. Nope, I was in there for sure. At that moment, I began to feel claustrophobic. Trapped, spaced in. It was frightening. Something I would most certainly not volunteer for again. Near exhaled, then put it on his own wrist. It didn't seem to affect him as much as me, as I could feel myself becoming paler by the moment, and he kept his natural tone: unemotional. He finally looked up and said, "Ok, it's done." * * * Work had been normal. Sort of. We hadn't made much progress, much to my dismay. Near didn't really have anything to say about it, apparently. At least I got a peak into Near's private life. Such as, if he slept on the floor, or if he loved the ground so much that he slept on it as well as sit on it. I was wrong, he had a bed. And that was pretty much it. Not much furniture. At the end of the day, when Matsuda and Nathalie had left for their own places, Near stood up (it's a sight to see, lemme tell you) and yanked me to the elevator. I was just staring at him. He never got up unless it was urgent, or we were going on a trip. And even then it wasn't much. I also wondered about what he ate. He never ate at work, never took a lunch break, never came in late because he was having a coffee...it was weird. Maybe he's actually an alien, and his parents left him here to fend for himself, posing him as an orphan. nah. I was just being critical. Once inside the elevator, he waited for the door to close, then he opened up some kind of latch underneath all the normal buttons. He looked up at me and explained, "Just in case someone breaks in in the middle of the night, so that my life--" he paused for a moment "--or someone who happens to be down here with me, for that matter, are in danger." I just kinda nodded. Man, this kid gaurded his life and thought ahead when it came to lives. I didn't see how he hadn't found Kira yet, he'd probably have some kind of weird feeling to go somewhere and just arrest him there. Or maybe he was just OCD, who knows? Once down in the basement, or at least, that's what Near said we were, the first thing I saw was cards. Tons and tons of tarot cards. All together in one gigantic structure that took up the majority of the room. They were right in front of us, and Near saw me hesitate. He smiled, reached forward, and grabbed the top of a glass case that was apparently safegaurding these particular cards, and swung it forward. We stepped out. I stood and stared at the gigantic card structure. It was like a hedge maze, but not as tall, and made out of cards. The first thing he said is, "Don't tip over my cards, otherwise, I'm gonna be pissed." I nodded. It was breath taking. I stopped in front of a certain row and looked at the card faces that were used to make it. They were all cards of death. But, when I looked closer, I noticed that there was one, right in the center, that was a card of life. He noticed me looking at it, but he paid no mind. He finally managed to pry me from the cards so that he could go over to a mini-fridge in the corner. He opened it, and I felt a sudden chill that sent goosebumps racing all over my arms and legs. "Want a coke?" He asked, holding a can up. I asked him, "Do you have any diet?" "Yeah, here, just a sec." He reached way in the back, sticking his whole arm in there. How could he not be breaking out in goosebumps like that? He mumbled something about never drinking diet, just in there for convenience. Finally, he managed to grab a hold on one of them and pull his arm back out to hand it to me. I thanked him and explained that I preferred diet because normal was too sweet for me. "Just too syrupy, you know?" "Yeah, I know what you mean, but that's what I like about it." He grinned. I just then realized that I thought his smile was cute. But not quite like the feeling that I got when I saw Matsuda smile at me. His was beautiful, but Near's...it was kind of like when you saw a child smile at you endearingly.

POSTIES!! EET DEM!! *shoves cereal box at Pete* www.youtube.com/watch?v=hOStF4q0zZIChapter 21 Broken
It was really early the next morning. Me and Near managed to agree that we would not touch, breath, or even THINK of each other while in that bed. Near fell asleep quickly, as I heard his breath deepen and slow down. Just to imagine...if I were Kira? What would it be like? Would I feel guilt? Regret? I hoped that I would, if I were. But I wasn't, luckily enough. I wasn't twisted enough for stuff like that. I remembered back to the day that I joined the FBI. I hadn't been expecting any of this...just a while back, I was out riding my bike everyday. Ah, the fresh air, blowing through my hair, the green grass, the blue sky...it was a beautiful sight that I never got to see anymore. I missed it. But at least I was getting closer to Dad, that was why I joined. And I'd met Matsuda. This was fate. It was truly fate that brought us together. I wished that they would just agree with each other for once. It would be nice every once and a while. I was finally drifting off to sleep. I slowly shut my eyes and thought of Matsuda, my father, my mother...my bicycle. It missed me, I could tell. I was dreaming. I looked around, but couldn't pin-point anything in particular. Then I looked down and noticed that I was on my bike. I felt the figuritive wind blow in my long hair...the gentle breeze at my face. I laughed with glee...I was normal again, finally! It was time to go in. I looked left and right, then headed on out. Out of nowhere, a car came rushing out, and ran over me right in the middle of the street. Soon enough, I heard the blaring sound of a siren, probably an ambluance. But, as I listened closer, it wasn't a siren. It was a phone. I snapped my eyes open, still a bit groggy. I saw that Near had already picked up the phone; he had place it right by the bed, smart boy. I heard him say, "Do you have any idea what time--" He paused. Then he said, all emotion from before lost, "I'll be right there." He nearly slammed the phone down, then jumped up and out of bed, dragging me along. My face had gone pale, I could tell. It was like that time that Mom and Dad had sat me down, how I'd felt before they told me that Grandpa was dead. How he'd had a heart attack...like so many of the criminals now. I managed to say, "Near, what's wrong?" "Come on, we need to go." He looked at my casual cami and sweat pants. "You might want to change first." He turned around, and I shrugged into the first things that I saw, a long-sleeved black pull-over, and some khakis. * * * Moments later, after arriving at the building Hiro, G, and my father were supposed to stay before boarding their flight, G walked out in a sad sorta way. Ambulances arrived, just like from my dream, blaring all around us, bright lights, sirens...and I saw a body being boarded onto it. I looked closer, but before I could, G put his hand on my shoulder and said, "Ruby, there was a gas leak in his room. Chlorine gas." He sighed. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." My feet had been knocked out from under me. My breath left me. It was a moment later that I sucked in enough air to start sobbing and weeping. I ran over to the ambulance where they were packing my dad into a body bag. I was told later on that I had begun shouting, "No!" over and over again... G went on to bed. Near was kind enough to let us hang out there...with my father. My dead father.

SOMEBODY POST!!! T-T PLEASE!! I BEG OF YOU!! I GET SO LONELY! www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3Lq4JNCyMwChapter 22 Dreams
After confirming for myself that my Dad was dead...bawling the whole time...I called my mom to give her the bad news. It was just us now. I wondered how in the world this could happen? * * * Early the next morning, we returned to HQ. It seemed so hollow now. I wondered where Matsuda had been this whole time. No, we should wait until the morning. No sense in bringing another disheartened soul into this. We returned to Near's separate floor. We got in bed again, but with one last word after we got through the card maze. He put his hand on my shoulder, which was still a few inches tall for him. His eyes were blank, blank like a robot's, even when it confesses all the love in the world to you. "I'm so sorry, Ruby." After a few tossing and turning moments, I was surprised that I fell asleep immediately. Rough night.
The world was dark. I saw nothing but shadow. No light, just shadows. I was the only one there. I heard an echoing sound and turned around. I saw someone. A figure. In the dream, I knew who it was, but my eyes couldn't see a person. I gasped and screamed, "Go away!" And, in a voice that was eerily familiar, I heard an evil laugh, and I heard words that seemed to swirl in the air. "I can't. It's impossible. You just had to bring me into your life. And now you can't take that back." I felt tears streaming down my face. "Remember Ben?" "Go away!" I screamed at the figure again. "Zetsubou?" I screamed in agony. "You even had to eliminate your own father. How sad." I felt my head seemingly split in two. I collapsed and screamed at the same time, and the last thing I heard was that same familiar eerie laugh that I just couldn't place.
The next dream was seemingly happier. I was watching myself at the age of five riding a bike for the first time. I even recognized the pink frills and managed to recall the name of Monica placed upon it. My long silver hair, pulled back into two ponytails, with little red ribbons. My mom had fixed my hair especially like that. My dad was behind me, pushing me along. He laughed. "You're doing good!" My littler self giggled and kept peddling. If only she could've known what that and future bikes would do for her. So much enjoyment... And then I fell. I lost my balance after my foot slipped from the pedal and somehow managed to knock myself off. I fell on the grass on my knees. I turned around to sit down and started to cry. My dad rushed over to me. "Ruby, are you alright?" He instantly started checking for injuries. I kept crying. I remembered all of this, thinking that my dad shouldn't have let go. I remembered that later on that night, I expressed the concern to my Dad, and he said, and I remembered the words exactly: "Ruby, I will always be there. I'll be there when you have your tenth birthday, when you become a teenager, I'll get you your first car. I'll walk you down the aisle with that one special guy, and I'll be there when you have your first child. I'll always be there."
The pain and grief of that jolted me awake. Near was already awake and calling G on the phone. Maybe he had a dream as well? G came up and Near told him about his dream, where all the task force members each died off one by one of heart attacks, and apparently while Near was dying, it was just G and I left. He wanted Hiro and Nathalie to be gone, so that they wouldn't risk that. I didn't blame him. G agreed, and all was back to normal. Sort of.

GAR GAIA KEEPS DISTRACTING ME!! MUST...POST...ON...FANFIC...! *eyetwitch* www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3Lq4JNCyMwChapter 23 Dad's Funeral
The day was dark and gloomy. The funeral had seemed to end quickly. I had run out of tears to shed before it had ended, and I stood quietly in front of his grave. The others had already left, to give me my privacy and to help comfort my mother, who was still sobbing. Except, of course, for Near. But he stood next to me in complete silence, letting me have my time. My mother's weeping echoed in my ears. My long black dress rippled in the wind. My hair flowed with it. My chest felt heavy, as if someone had put a great weight on it. Who did this? I had a feeling that this wasn't just an accident. Someone had done it on purpose. I remembered when there had been someone at HQ, an intruder. The last words I remembered him saying was that Kira would punish us all. But how could Kira have found my Dad? We never used our real names, and as far as we could tell, Kira wasn't in the building with us. Working on our task force. I looked at Near. He was still looking at my father's grave. His grave was a tall stone pillar that stuck out of the earth, with an angel on top. The elegant curves and details etched into it's wings and rob soothed my soul. I looked down at the piles of flowers that had been piled on top of where his head would be... They were bursting with color. To think, that could be my father. That was him, when I was little, before he joined the FBI. It had never been supposed to happen like this. A gas leak... That wasn't it. Those robed...people were behind this. I was sure of it. I turned to Near. "I'm ready to go." He gave me a sympathetic look. I saw that on his face, there was a shining path down it where a single tear had slid down. "Are you sure you don't want to stay any longer?" I sighed and looked back at the angel. "Yes, I'm sure." "Ok." We walked the same way that the others had gone. I saw all the other graves, then looked behind them in the big field that was yet to be occupied. I saw wildflower, of every color. Pink, blues, yellow, reds, oranges, every color. It was beautiful. There was life after death, I could be sure of that. And my father deserved all of it. I would avenge him...

Ima so lonely! ='C www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJtE0Ij7jis&feature=relatedChapter 24 >>>part one<<< Step Up
A week later, everyone returned to HQ. Meanwhile, I had been developing some serious homesickness. I missed my room, even if they bugged it. I missed getting up each morning and not being chained to someone three years younger than me. I missed having all the opportunities that I did to go on dates with Matsuda. We seemed kind of in a rut lately...and the handcuffs were what kept us there. It was always Wake up, Wait for Near to wake up if necessary, Stand outside the bathroom while he was in there doing...whatever he was doing, etc, etc. Once, I woke up and the first thing I saw was Near's face about two feet from mine. It was just plain freaky. I blinked a few times and asked him, "Near, what the hell are you doing?" Absently, he said, "I'm looking at your emotions while you sleep." It was then that I saw the lines underneath his eyes. "You've been watching me all night?" I blinked again, trying to get rid of the tiredness. "Yeah, I have been. I think you have nightmares." It was just freaky. That Monday morning, when I got up to go to work, just like always it seemed, I played through what I would ask G. I would get all the information I needed. This game just got overly personal with the death of my father. Far too personal... And then I realized that G wasn't coming in. He'd decided to keep on the tail of the Second Kira. He wouldn't be here. I'd have to radio in my questions to him. That note...had I not found it on the lamp...would my father still be alive? I flashed back to the instant that I saw the note, calling downstairs, "Hey, guys, I think I found something!" Their cries of joy sounded through my ears again, and again, and again... So, I explained it to Near. He said, "G shouldn't be too far from the original site. He's traveling by van now, just to be on the safe side." In my head I wondered how we had money for two vans...and plane tickets...and a whole building. Meh, taxes, I guess. "That's a good idea. I'm glad you thought of it." At least he wasn't stuck up about it. "Let's go on." Of course, without getting dressed (considering all he ever wore was pajamas) we got out of the bed. I decided to stay in my cami and sweatpants. It was worth waiting.
